John Chard from School Appeals writes book on school admissions and appeals
In the last few months, John Chard, the Principal of School Appeals, has written the most comprehensive guide for school admissions and appeals. The book covers not only admissions and appeals in England but for the first time includes Wales and Scotland.
John had said "Writing this book has been a challenge because I have tried to cover every possibility that is likely to arise for parents.
Whilst it is important to get the appeal right, it is even more important to get the original application right; if you can do that then many parents will be spared the anxiety and stress of having to use the statutory appeals process which can be a very daunting experience.
Parents today have access to a lot more help than ever before and as a result the success rate for appeals is improving. The government has noticed this trend and has now published an new appeals Code that is seeking to limit still further the success rate for parents facing class size appeals for applications in years 1 and 2, and reception."
This is why School Appeals has anounced that this new book is the most comprehensive book ever written because not only does it take you step by step through the admission and appeals maze, but it ilso includes a number of case studies, copies of statements produced for successful appeals but also extracts from a number of investigations from the Ombudsman where the appeals were deemed to be unfair.
John says "The book is unique because it draws on my own personal involvement and clerking of well over 2000 appeals and I have been able to gain an insight how admission authorities prepare and present statements. In addition I know where the weaknesses are in the information presented at appeals."
The book is designed to be a self help guide for parents, but there are still many that need additional help and School Appeals is able to offer 1 to 1 services to such parents. In addition, School Appeals is now representing parents at appeals with an impressive success rate.
The book is due to be published in March so that parents involved in the appeal process for admissions in September will be able to benefit from its advice.
