80% of secocndary schools achieve the government target on GCSEs

Depending on where you start from will depend on whether you see this as good or bad. Those who are optomistic will say that the published figures represent an improveement but thos e who remain pessimistic will say that a fifth of schools are still not delivering a suitable education and are letting both parents and pupils down.

Prime Minister , Gordon Brown, wants schools to continue to improve still further and sees the target as simply that and no doubt will be increased to a higher level when schools achieve this level.

Time will tell if the targets being set continue to be realistic of whether they will be reviewed either up or down.
